The rise of workout culture shows that people are becoming more conscious of their health and fitness. But hefting irons and running neat circles around town is not all there is to exercise routines. Wearing the right gym clothes is also an essential part of it.
Sadly, many people don’t know what to wear to the gym or how and when to wear it. They focus entirely on their fitness goals while their poor gym fashion continues to work against those goals or even cause them injury. Usually, it’s because they’re new to gym culture, but even some gym veterans make the same blunders.
If you happen to be in that boat and want to correct your gym fashion habits, then this post is just for you. I will show you some of these gym fashion errors and how to avoid them. Are you ready? Let’s proceed.
1 Wearing undersized gym outfits
This problem has a lot to do with the mindset of some exercisers. I agree we all want to see the physical fruits of our labour as we exercise. Because of this, a lot of people decide to wear very tight-fitting or undersized clothes. This way, they can watch their muscles expand between reps and even show off their shape as they return home from the gym.
Of course, it’s nice to have everyone admire your new abs or fit physique. However, when your gym clothes are too tight, it causes blood circulation and breathing issues. You may be slowly killing yourself while trying to get fit. What is more? Imagine rising with the weights and having your outfit rip open in an awkward place!
So, while it’s perfectly advisable to wear something that lets you flaunt your figure, you should avoid overly tight gym clothes.
2 Wearing a strong fragrance or cologne
Let’s face it: we all want to smell nice at all times. Wearing fragrances is a perfectly advisable practice. However, many of us tend to overdo it, and that’s especially bad when you’re going to the gym.
You’re going for some exercise, not attending a soiree. Imagine being in the gym and having the mixed odour of sweat and intense perfume wafting your way at intervals. A mixture of smells like that is unpleasant, especially for women who have more sensitive noses. You may just be putting off that hot lady or muscular fellow you’ve been eyeing without knowing it.
So, what do you do? If you must wear any fragrance to your workouts, use mild-smelling body spray. And please, don’t overdo it.
3 Wearing jewellery
Wearing jewellery is a bad move, especially loose and dangly jewellery. I understand that professional athletes like to wear jewellery even while on the job, but I don’t suppose you’re one, which means you’re probably not nearly as coordinated; no offence.
Even if you were an athlete, wearing jewellery to the gym is still a bad idea. You might get your necklaces or bracelets tangled in the bars or your clothes or something worse. So, please avoid wearing jewellery in the gym as much as possible.
4 Great activity, wrong gear
This is another mistake most people tend to make: using the wrong gear or none at all. If you’re running in slippers or lifting weights without a weight-lifting belt, you have to stop doing that. Various gym accessories exist for a reason, and you could be putting yourself at a lot of risks if you’re ignoring them or using the wrong ones. Look for the appropriate gear for your workout activities and make good use of them.
The bottom line
These fashion mistakes may seem trivial, but they can be the difference between a healthy workout lifestyle and killing yourself at the gym. So, I hope you don’t let simple errors like these retard or injure you as you pursue your fitness goals. Keep these bits of advice in mind, and you can make the most of your workout sessions.
